Payne 2.5-Ton AC System — 17" Cabinet — with Colorado rebate analysis
You might find a cheaper quote for the same equipment. Here's what that quote won't include — and why it matters for a landlord thinking long-term.
We chose this unit specifically because it works well with your existing solar system. But more importantly, we wire the installation to be battery-ready from day one. When you're ready to add storage down the road, your AC is already configured to run off it — no electrician callback, no rewiring, no extra cost later. The cheaper install skips this step because they're not thinking about what comes next. We are.
Most installs hand you a login to the manufacturer's cloud app and move on. That means your system data lives on Carrier's servers, the app can change or shut down anytime, and you're stuck creating accounts you don't control. We set up monitoring that runs on your local network — you see system health, runtime, and performance without depending on anyone else's infrastructure.
Here's the problem other installers don't solve: to see how your equipment is running, you either share an app login with your tenant (messy), ask them to screenshot things for you (annoying), or just fly blind until something breaks (expensive). With Aftermath, you have your own access to equipment health and performance. You delegate climate control to your tenant. These are completely separate — you never need to see their personal info, they never see your property dashboard.
Your tenant gets comfortable climate control. You get equipment telemetry and peace of mind. Owner and tenant access are separate by design — not bolted together in a shared app where someone might see something they shouldn't. No crossed wires, no awkward conversations, no liability concerns.
"Our price reflects an install that's designed to save you money over the life of the system — not just on the day it goes in. Solar integration, battery-ready wiring, independent monitoring, and a privacy model that works for landlords. These aren't add-ons. They're how we build every system."
AHRI-certified combination from the Carrier/Payne family. Matched units hit published SEER2 ratings and maintain full manufacturer warranty.
Fits tight utility closets and narrow mechanical rooms while delivering full 2.5-ton capacity — no compromises on airflow.
All-aluminum Micro-Channel condenser coil resists corrosion far better than traditional copper/aluminum designs. Built for longevity.
Supports up to 250 ft total equivalent line length. Upflow or downflow configuration. Single-stage scroll compressor for reliable, quiet operation.
Selected specifically to integrate with your existing solar system. Wired to be battery-ready — when you add storage in the future, the AC is already configured to run off it with no rewiring needed.
Includes local system monitoring from your home network — no dependency on Carrier's official app or cloud services. As a landlord, you get full visibility into system health and performance without accessing your tenant's personal devices or violating their privacy.

The Section 25C Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit was available through December 31, 2025 and has since expired. For 2026 installations, no federal tax credit applies. Note: even when active, this system's 14 SEER2 rating was below the required 17.0 SEER2 / 12.0 EER2 threshold for the credit. ENERGY STAR ↗
Colorado's rebate programs (Xcel Energy, HEAR, State Tax Credit, Power Ahead) are fully active in 2026 — but apply exclusively to heat pumps. AC-only systems do not qualify. Upgrading to a 5-ton cold climate heat pump unlocks $12,250+ in rebates with no income requirement, and up to $20,250 for income-qualifying households. See comparison below.
*Xcel alone ($11,250) covers the full installed cost of most heat pump systems. Add State Tax Credit ($1,000) and HEAR (up to $8,000) and the rebates far exceed the equipment price — with heating included.
29,000 BTU at 5°F means this unit heats your home at full capacity even in Colorado winters. Operates down to -22°F — no emergency backup needed.
Replaces both your AC and furnace. One unit to maintain, one system to monitor, one warranty. Simplifies everything for landlords managing multiple properties.
Carrier's crossover form factor installs as close as 4" from the building. 17" coil fits narrow spaces. Can be roof-mounted or stacked for multi-family.
Variable-speed inverter ramps down to as low as 59 dB — quieter than a conversation. No tenant complaints about outdoor noise.
R-454B (Puron Advance) has 75% lower global warming potential than R-410A. Future-proof — you won't need a costly refrigerant changeover down the road.
Qualifies for Xcel ($11,250 at 5 tons), CO State Tax Credit ($1,000), HEAR (up to $8,000), and Power Ahead ($1,500). Xcel alone covers the full installed cost.
*Carrier Crossover equipment is dealer-priced. Final installed cost will be confirmed at time of scheduling.
Unlike the AC-only option, this 5-ton cold climate heat pump meets all eligibility requirements: ENERGY STAR certified, 19 SEER2, 10.8 HSPF2, and verified cold climate performance at 5°F. At 5 heating tons, the Xcel rebate alone is $11,250 — enough to cover the full installed cost. The federal 25C credit expired Dec 31, 2025 — but Colorado's state programs are fully active and stack together.
Without income qualification: Xcel ($11,250) + State Tax Credit ($1,000) = $12,250 back. On a $10,000–$12,000 install, the rebates alone cover the full cost of a system that heats and cools.
With HEAR (<80% AMI): Add up to $8,000 more for a total of up to $20,250 in rebates — well beyond the installed cost.
